Cullen Wines 'Diana Madeline' 2020 Magnum (Gift Boxed)
First planted in 1971 on the gravelly, ironstone-rich soils of Wilyabrup, the Cullen estate is a benchmark site for biodynamic Cabernet blends in Margaret River. The 2020 Diana Madeline comes from low yielding, certified biodynamic vines, hand harvested in the cool early hours to preserve purity and freshness. Fermentation was wild, with gentle extraction in small open vessels before maturation in fine French oak, a portion new, to shape structure without overwhelming the wine’s natural fragrance. Bottled unfiltered into magnum, this edition emphasises length, energy and the graceful ageing curve that Diana Madeline is famed for.
Appearance
Deep garnet with a vibrant crimson edge; the magnum format shows exceptional brightness and depth of colour.
Nose
Classic cassis, mulberry and blackberry leaf, layered with graphite, cedar and violets. Hints of bay leaf, cocoa and warm gravel add complexity, supported by a subtle lift of dried rose and savoury spice.
Palate
Medium to full bodied with refined concentration. Blackcurrant, red plum and dark cherry meld with tobacco leaf, cocoa nib and polished oak. The tannins are fine, long and chalky, giving superb structure, while bright acidity threads through to a persistent, elegant finish. The magnum promises a slow, harmonious evolution with decades of potential.
