Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millésime 2014
The 2014 Grand Cru Millésime is Egly-Ouriet's vintage-declared flagship, built entirely from Ambonnay's old-vine Grand Cru parcels. 2014 was a cooler, less heralded year in Champagne, but in Francis Egly's hands it has become one of the standout wines of the vintage, retaining freshness without any of the leaner, greener edges some producers struggled with. The wine spends roughly 96 months (8 years) on its lees before release, giving it extraordinary depth for a "lesser" vintage year.
Colour :
Pale gold with fine, persistent bubbles.
Nose :
Pear, mirabelle plum, freshly baked bread, almond paste, honeycomb and a touch of gingerbread spice.
Palate :
Full-bodied, satiny and layered, moving from a rich textural attack into a deep, pure mid-palate, finishing long, penetrating and mouth-wateringly saline.
