McHenry Hohnen 'Hazel’s Vineyard' Chardonnay 2023

McHenry Hohnen’s 2023 'Hazel’s Vineyard' Chardonnay comes from their most coastal and expressive single vineyard in Margaret River. It is shaped by northerly slopes of ironstone gravel soils and cooling ocean breezes. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed, fermenting naturally in French oak barriques with roughly 40% new oak. The wine undergoes careful lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation to enhance texture. The result is a Chardonnay of coastal intensity, layered complexity and energetic structure that embodies this special site.

Appearance
Pale straw with green highlights and fine brilliance.

Nose
Aromatic notes of mandarin peel, pink grapefruit, frangipani and flint emerge from aromas developed in barrel. There is also seductively layered nougat nuance.

Palate
Elegant and structured. The palate reveals lime curd, salted grapefruit, white nectarine and a salty minerality supported by vibrant acidity and fine phenolic grip. Power is delivered with precision and persistence.
