Felton Road 'Calvert' 2024 Jeroboam (Wooden box)
Situated on deep, silty loam soils over schist gravels, the Calvert Vineyard is one of Bannockburn’s most expressive and finely etched Pinot Noir sites. Its cool microclimate and uniform, glacially derived soils produce wines of purity, fragrance and mineral tension. The 2024 vintage was hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, using a mix of whole berries and whole clusters to emphasise perfume and structure. Gentle extraction in small open-top fermenters was followed by maturation in French oak, around 25–30% new, before being bottled unfiltered into magnum for extended ageing. This release highlights Calvert’s hallmark elegance, precision and silken drive.
Appearance
Bright ruby with a youthful violet hue; excellent luminosity and depth, enhanced by the magnum format.
Nose
Lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate, joined by lilac, lavender and subtle wild herb. Fine mineral notes wet stone and schist dust provide tension, while delicate oak adds hints of spice and sandalwood.
Palate
Medium bodied, poised and finely layered. Red fruits cranberry, cherry and ripe strawberry integrate with savoury undertones of dried thyme, subtle earth and a gentle mineral thread. Tannins are ultra-fine and chalky, giving a graceful but confident frame. Bright, pure acidity carries the wine through a long, shimmering, finely detailed finish. The magnum promises even greater aromatic lift and slow-building complexity over many years.
