Massolino Barolo 2017 DOCG
The 2017 Massolino Barolo captures the distinctive character of a warm, early-ripening vintage in Serralunga d’Alba, delivering a Barolo that is more immediately expressive while retaining the structure and seriousness for which Massolino is known. Hot summer conditions and low rainfall reduced yields, concentrating flavors and producing ripe, finely textured Nebbiolo with notable aromatic intensity.
Traditional vinification in stainless steel emphasized clarity of fruit and varietal purity, followed by extended aging of approximately 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. This approach softened the naturally firm tannins of the vintage while preserving freshness and balance. The resulting wine is bold yet controlled, with depth, precision, and classic Barolo integrity.
Appearance:
Medium garnet with amber highlights toward the rim.
Nose:
Aromas of ripe red cherry, dried raspberry, and rosehip, supported by notes of leather, baking spice, fennel seed, and warm earth.
Palate:
Concentrated and savory, offering flavors of red plum, sour cherry, and blood orange layered with licorice, tobacco leaf, and crushed stone. Structured tannins and lively acidity frame a long, dry finish marked by spice and mineral tension.
