Seppeltsfield Para 1971 Vintage Tawny (wooden gift box)
Situated in the historic heart of the Barossa, Seppeltsfield’s Para Vintage Tawny stands as one of Australia’s greatest and most iconic fortified wines. This 1971 vintage release, presented in a timber gift box with its original outer cardboard case, reflects more than a century of craftsmanship, drawn from old-vine vineyards and matured in the estate’s famed Centennial Cellars. Each bottle is individually authenticated; this is bottle number 197, offered in excellent condition with no defects to the wax seal and complete certificate of authenticity.
Appearance
Deep mahogany at the center, fading to amber-edged brass at the rim. The wine clings to the glass with slow, viscous tears visual testimony to its decades of concentration and barrel maturity.
Nose
A complex and evocative bouquet. Layers of dark caramel, burnt toffee and roasted walnuts rise first, followed by dried fig, raisin and orange-peel marmalade. Beneath these sit subtler tones of antique oak, polished leather, cocoa nib, baking spices and a whisper of smoked treacle. The aromatics are rich, harmonious and deeply expressive of long-seasoned fortified ageing.
Palate
Sumptuous, velvety and profoundly concentrated. Waves of dark molasses, medjool date, maple toffee and black-tea tannin unfold across the palate, joined by roasted almond, spiced citrus, cocoa and dried apricot. The sweetness is balanced by Para’s signature line of acidity, carrying the flavours with precision and preventing any heaviness. The finish is monumental long, warming and layered with old-oak complexity, caramelised fruit, and a lingering nuttiness.
